1.5 sport manual gear change
« on: October 05, 2023, 03:17:39 PM »
Hi everyone,

My wife's car is a 2019 sport 1.5 manual. It has only done 12,000 miles.

I only drive it occasionally but find the gearbox to be very notchy and clicky.not particularly smooth going into any gear.

It makes my wrist ache after a while. I have tried pushing the clutch down longer before gear changes and increasing the revs, it doesn't make much difference.

I had heard the gearbox was one of the cars best features!

Any other sport owners, is yours the same? Did it loosen up with mileage?

I did ring my honda dealer, despite the car being under extended warranty they want to charge to test drive it!

My wife isn't complaining so I probably should just ignore it!

Ours has done 31k miles and yes sometimes it is a bit notchy especially when cold.
Most of the time it is nice and smooth.

Maybe a gearbox oil change might help.

Thanks. I might go ahead and get the gearbox oil changed with the next service
and see if that helps. I have noticed shifting down say 4th to 2nd gear is nice and smooth.

Going into 1st is sometimes stiff especially if you don't stop first and reverse can be a bit awkward but the others are fine.

Did yours loosen up a bit with additional mileage or has it been consistently the same?
Shifting down gears is nice and smooth with no 'clunkiness' but shifting up especially 1st to 2nd is very notchy

Can't say as we bought it at 27k miles and have only done 4k in the year we've had it.

Certainly not as clean a gearbox as the 8G 1.8 Civic and TypeR we had/have

I have now driven 60 tkm and it's became smoother when compared to what it was in the beginning. But I do hope it still gets better, because it's not even near to how smooth a gearchange can be.

Thanks to both of you. It seems like it will be a waste of time taking it back to Honda. I think I will get the gearbox oil changed next service and hoping it will improve with mileage.
