Usb iPhone connection ‘Unsupported’
« on: May 22, 2023, 01:32:05 PM »
Hi all,

First time posting, hope you all can help me.

I have a 2014 Jazz, purchased on Feb from a main dealer.

Have been using the usb connection to play music etc for the last few months and everything was fine, however this last week it’s started saying ‘Unsupported’ and not working.

The cables are official Honda / Apple cables, I have rebooted my phone, checked it has the latest updates, but it still doesn’t work with my iPhone 13.

I gather that Honda don’t release firmware updates, but I can’t think what else to do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks everyone

Have you got any songs on your iTunes?

You need at least 1 song on your iTunes/Apple Music for it to recognise the device.

Don’t ask me why. I’m sick of hearing that free U2 album start up

Does anyone else have any suggestions on how to solve this? Ideally without visiting a main dealer?

I know it'll be a lot of copying but is using a usb stick a possibility ?

I'm reading of similar connectivity problems with dashcams after a recent iPhone update.
Let's be careful out there !

Possible, but not ideal as all my music is formatted to iTunes (so not mp3), and it would take a long time to reformat all the music.

Any other suggestions?

I do not know about the mk2, but the mk4 has 2 different choices you can make. One uses the USB socket to read data from a disk drive, while the other listens to music being streamed. The first one uses the radio as the controlling master, while the second one uses your iPhone as master (to read and stream audio).

I’m assuming something went wrong during an update, you might have a broken cable or a change in the settings of either phone or radio. Difficult to pinpoint.

The Mk2 is quite happy playing .m4a files (AAC in an MP4 container) as long as they have the usual Apple metadata. That's how I used to listen to podcasts and BBC Radio shows (using get-iplayer).

I’ll give it a try using a usb device then - thanks for that!

Is it easy enough to select songs etc, as I’ve got a lot of music organised into artists, albums etc

As you've only had the car since Feb, why not complain to the dealer..?
