I had to wait years before the Tanaka airbag finally became available  for the recall on my Toyota.
When the letter finally came  I was on holiday so it was a couple of weeks before I made an appointment. They had used 'my' airbag for someone else  and I had to wait a further two months  >:(

Honda Jazz Mk1 2002-2008 / Need help with Jazz CEL light - P0420 error
« Last post by cavosavosk on March 25, 2025, 10:58:52 AM »
Hello!
Im new to this forum and looking for help.

I got my Jazz (2003 1.2i-dsi) for some time now and Tech. Inspection is coming up, so i need to get it ready for it. And yea, check engine light is on and on OBD it shows error p0420

to understand better, i need to write out what i've done so far:
I bought the car at the end of June and I was a bit of an idiot and missed that someone taped out CEL and ABS light (from behind the dash, yeah...). After getting it scanned there was EGR valve flow error and some ABS short error. Not a big deal, knew about the EGR shizzle and went to clean it.
Well some jackass thought something else and massacred the original EGR valve by angle grinder (yes you hear correctly) and then installed a blocking plate. It took me 2 tries and a LOT of effort to clean all canals for the egr valve to function properly, not to mention buying a new used valve. God damn, even the canal going thru the head was absolutely clogged.

EGR error vanished and car runs great. Even fuel consumption improved a bit. But since then p0420 error popped up. I tried cleaning it with scanner, didnt help. We poured some catalytic cleaner additive into the tank (right after cleaning the EGR), didnt help either. I dont drive it like a granny, i rev the Jazz up a lot. But still the error pops up after 15-20km and writes itself into the memory.

I got a recommendation that the first O2 sensor may be a bit off its range, causing the fault code. God knows how long was the EGR blocked off and what damage it could have done.

Im a student on a not so great budget, so i need to solve the issue in a smart manner and without brainlessly throwing parts at it. Any help is welcomed.
Thanks

My brake recall just got postponed by 2 weeks.

I know it's always someone else's fault with this kind of thing but I was told that ''Honda are a bit slow getting the parts out.''

I wonder whether this might become a general problem.

Honda Jazz Mk1 2002-2008 / Re: ABS pump failure

Thanks for this Thread!
My jazz had ABS light on since i bought it and i wanted to replace the whole pump aswell. Luckily i came across this post sooner than i got some replacement pump :D

Removed the motor from the module, split the rotor apart from the metal plate with bearing and then sourced some larger brushes which we sanded down to the correct dimensions to fit. Also cleaned the contacts where brushes were touching the rotor (mine were completly busted). Then it was just a matter of putting it all back together and stuffing it back in the car. Voila, ABS is working again!

Note: the plastic carrier which houses the brushes and power probes may be brittle and the clips holding it in place on the metal plate CAN snap off. We got around it by using very small selftap screws and a 1.5mm drillbit.

The L/H side Power Fold Passenger mirror has developed an intermittent fault. When the car has been left overnight and I press the "fold-out" button, the driver's side works but the passenger side doesn't. However if I try the same thing again later in the day or when the sun has been shining on the front of the car, it folds out and retracts without a problem an continues to do so for the rest of the day.

I would add, I had to replace the drivers side power fold mirror last year, so before I purchase a complete replacement unit for the passenger side: Can anyone provide any suggestions?

Thank you 😊
Finding more and more things I like about my Jazz as I read the owners manual. Then an 'Oh FFS' moment when I just opened the upper glove box and found the wheel nut key. After I spent £27 ordering one from Honda last month. Well, I've got two now I suppose

Must admit, I'm the same

My Viofo A119 V3 just comes on with the ignition and in 6 years has never failed

Over on Dashcamtalk I've yet to see a post with a successful parking mode story

I've also always used the 'Option Connector' method using the Honda dedicated accessory port on the fusebox

Does this post help?
https://clubjazz.org/forum/index.php?topic=12634.0

In over 50 years of car ownership  I have never had a crime or collision incident  where parking mode would have been any help in identifying and proving  the perpetrator.

Once when walking towards my car in a supermarket car park I  saw the car in the next bay graze my rear bumper  as he reversed out.  But the car and the incident would never have appeared in the field of view of my front dashcam.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone has actually had a positive result from a dashcam in parking mode  rather than just some  reassurance.

70MAI UP02 hardware kit comes with a proper adapter with a low voltage protection set at 11.8V.

Just needs to be plugged into constant power fuse VCC (red), I worked out the screen/radio would be a good source as I don't want to plug it into any other critical circuits as airbags or ABS, just can't work out which fuse it is on the diagram.

Red cable VCC needs to be plugged into constantly powered circuit/fuse 12V - my first thought was multimedia/radio circuit
Yellow cable ACC plugs into any circuit/fuse powered on ignition - e.g. 12v front accessory socket
Black is just ground.

This is the only way to have parking mode enabled on 70mai dashcams,  otherwise the mode is disabled on the standard 5v cable

If you do go down the permanent live route make sure you have a 12v to 5v power transformer that has a low voltage cutoff or you could easily flatten your car 12v battery
