Jazz 2008 - Model confirmation required.
« on: September 18, 2024, 11:46:06 AM »
I've moved into a new home where a lamp post jump in front of me when I reversed right into it and removed my right side mirror... The other mirror had its sensor broken I guess by someone walking past it and bending it past its limit when I wasn't around, this happened before.

That is my short story I'm sticking with. I've been to a couple of dealerships (started at Honda which was just too insanely expensive and I am about to go back).

My problem is that I've had my car at one of the dealerships booked in as a 2008 1.4 I  DSI, the mirrors were ordered and when it arrived I was told that the mirrors would require an auto electrician to modify them to "fit" my car. This was not part of the deal so I told them to "stop the lorry" and refund/stop anything they were busy with; I took my car and I since then looked for another dealership to help me.

I still am not sure though that the model of my car is correct though. Is there a way I can make sure I have the correct model for my car? Any help I would very much appreciate!

Many thanks for you help in advance.

Walter.

Go along to your local breakers yard, ask to see any older model Jazz in stock, often the mirrors and other fast moving parts are removed.
You can check the spec if the car by finding the vin number on the passenger b pillar it's down near the bottom of the door.
Quote that number when ordering it's down to wether your Jazz has heated mirrors or not from memory.

I think the DSI bit refers to the engine type .  In the european specification it was available in 4 trim levels, S , SE ,SE sport and  sport.   All European  trim levels had heated mirrors.

The main difference is SE had air conditioning , and electric rear windows, the  S did not.      But  as you are in South Africa all bets are off .  The south african  specification  trim levels  may be completely different, missing some features, or adding others.  Even the lowest trim level may have had airconditioning, while none may have had  heated mirrors etc.  The trim level may have a different name.

As Olduser says the main difference is likely to be whether the replacment mirror is heated or not. As most Jazz came with heated mirrors its likely that most  replacment  spare parts will have a heating element stuck on the  back of the glass, whether it needs it or not.  It doesnt add much to the cost and saves having to stock  both types.   If your car door is not wired  for a heated mirror its not really worth paying an electrician to wire it up. You didnt have a heated mirror in the first place.   If the replacment mirror is not the heated type I dont think an electrican could make it so, and  do you really need it to be heated?
I will fix that dripping tap.  No need to keep reminding me every 3 months.
