I've just seen a post of the new 11G Civic displaying Android Auto in the new split screen mode. Looks useful to display Google Maps and other useful info at the same time.
I don't suppose we can achieve that as I've not seen any setting..
-
...Isn't that just an impending Android Auto update away? I didn't realise it would be car screen dependant!
-
I've just checked the AA version when it was introduced and that was 8.2xxx and I'm on version 8.6xxx
I have a feeling it may require a headunit software update.
-
Nope. It's a server-side setting at Google, which is being drip fed out account-by-account. Its codename was "Project Coolwalk".
It appeared on my phone on Wednesday and "just works" with my 2021 Mk4.
-
Thanks
So it should come in sooner or later.
Can't check as I'm at home and the car is in the daughter's garage 30 miles away. Last time I came home it was -4C and there had been quite a few shunts the previous night ..... got the train.
-
Yeah split screen works for me too using S21 Ultra.
-
I've still got my S10 which is maxed out on Android 12.
I did get a AA update last week and I'll be driving back tomorrow, I'll see.
No rush though, quite happy with full screen Maps. I've set my phone AA setting to LHD so the map is on my side with the embedded info bar on the left.
-
You can still change the screen to show the maps in full screen which I do if I'm going somewhere unknown.
-
Yes, I read that, not got it yet.
I wonder how it's being rolled out, presumably not by AA version ?
-
...And as a Pixel owner I'll be the last to get the update :o ;D ???
-
I’ve just bought a Google Pixel 6A that is running Android 13 and the split screen is on android auto. My previous 3a wouldn’t upgrade past version 11 and that didn’t have it.
-
I've been doing a Sherlock on split screen and it comes with Android Auto version 8.8.630404
My last AA update was 11th Jan and was 8.6.625054

Just downloaded from web but doesn't work. There is some YouTube videos on web but can't figured why it's not working

...Mine is a 6 pro, no update for me yet.
-
I try to figure out but no luck. I give up for now because it's snowing outside and I don't wanna go to car again :)
Version isn't important people using it with 8.6 or even older.
There is a hidden developer menu in AA
Coolwalk didn't work but I found my wife's phone problem she can use wireless AA now.
That's a big win for me
-
It's a per-account switch that's turned on at the Google end and doesn't rely on which version of the app you have. It doesn't rely on which version of Android you have, either.
For instance I have Android Auto version 8.7.
Google are cautiously rolling it out at the moment.
-
I got a AA update yesterday to version 8.8x and along with it came split screen.
However, it seems useless for me.
I get 2 extra side panels, one of which shows recent navigation destinations - that without split screen shows over Maps anyway and the other panel just shows 'media unavailable' so is greyed out.
I've had a play and I can't see any way of changing what goes in the media panel.
-
I just went out and the screen was usual maps, parked, came back, and dual screen came up by itself. Two thirds was maps which you had to go to the square at bottom right to full screen and magnify to your preference, then back again, and one third was music player which worked very well on screen or on steering wheel on random showing album cover as background. Samsung A series with Pulsar as the player.
-
From what I can gather the media panel links to music apps on your phone ?
I don't have any, I play music from a USB stick or occasionally the radio.
As a result that panel is pointless for me so I'm back to full screen.
-
Yes the music player has to be on the phone, unless maps can be wireless and one side screen to USB input, which I guess entails mods to the Honda screen system.
My perfect Jazz would have two 9in screens next to each other like the E. You can flick back and forth to set maps or music (and a lot else), or passenger can enter destinations and flick back to driver side and then play with the dab station etc etc on other side.
-
My phone is connected wirelessly but the USB stick could not be displayed, not for the want of trying.
My phone connects wirelessly to the Jazz headunit and my Garmin DS61. I run Maps in satellite view and stream Speedtrap Alert so I'm not going to burden the wireless connection streaming music as well.
Maybe Google will allow user changing of panels to miss out media, I can wait.
-
... Mine appeared on the drive home. I'm on the 8.7.630264-release.
My 'music panel' is taken up by YouTube Music.
