I have been off line for 12 months or so & wanted to check if anyone here had heard of the 2011 model spec , there is some talk of the i-shift going west and being replaced with a CVT. Now if Honda UK wanted sales all they need to do is mate the CVT with 1.5 VTEC like Jazz drivers in South Africa enjoy .

So any rumours ?

Nope everythings still the same.

No change at the moment.

What they need to do is have the 'sport' model with 1.5 vtec engine like the states have and I'll be trading my Jazz in an instant.

I've asked the chap on the Honestjohn  discussion forum for more details of this:
Great news. I know there has been loads of rumours of late about the Jazz Hybrid / CVT etc but now its 100% official.

Honda have announced that the last batch of I-Shifts will roll off production in November with the CVT replacing it almost immediately. The Jazz Hybrid will also be available to order for early 2011.

 Lets see what emerges.

Sorry to hear the i-SHIFT is to be (could be ?)replaced on the Jazz:(
I would have thought it better to develop the system to make the system easier to live with on 'first drives'.  The fault to my mind is in the mapping of the engine to give the best fuel consumption figures causing hesitation in increasing the engine speed from low (under 2k revs) in 'panic' situations.
I find that I prefer the overall control that I have over the performance to suit the road/traffic conditions by use of the gears when needed with the option of automatic control when in slow moving/stop start traffic on Motorways or in town.
I never felt in full  control with the CVT box on my previous Jazz Sport despite its 'paddles'. For instance on a winding downhill road or driving round bends on country roads when trying to keep up more than a 'Sunday driver's' rate of progress. Roll Eyes
To my mind a lazy man's car that 'enjoyed revving its head off while trying to increase speed uphill or in keeping up with traffic on Motorway inclines  Sad    .
Can cruise control be fitted to a CVT box ? - its a boon for 50 mph sections on Motorways roadworks  Grin & worth every penny  Smiley
Keep enjoying Jazz driving

Hello: my first post here!  I'd seen a message on HJ about the CVT, but can't see any source for the claim.   The auto version for SA is fitted with a torque converter auto, as in the US.Personally, I'd be quite interested in a 1.5 manual version, as it gives something like MINI Cooper performance with 120PS.   It's a shame the UK branch of Honda don't seem to want to make a more sprightly Jazz available.

Further updates @ 03/08/10:
Thanks, Nellzonda. Is this official dealer info? There doesn't seem to ahve been a press release. And are you sure Honda is reverting to the CVT rather then the 5 speed torque converter auto it already fits for South Africa at the Swindon plant. Whatever, it is something I have been recommending them to do since the first adverse reaction to the i-shift that never did what it was supposed to do anyway, which was to get the car under 120g/km.

HJ

Hi HJ

Yes I work for a Honda dealership. Although nothing has been printed in the press there are no secrets as customers of mine have also received this as confirmation from Honda UK when they complianed about the I-Shift !

As far as I am aware it will be the same CVT as the Insight. I have phoned HUK logistics to see when they are available to order and they have told me December / january but this could be subject to change.
