Michelin Engery Saver + 185/55 15 82H - finally on the car.
« on: April 17, 2014, 02:01:45 PM »
I was enquiring the other day about the cost/availability of these with one of my local tyre places. Computer says not in stock at Stoke and the lead-in time is approximately 6-8 weeks. One or two other makes had some June delivery dates too.

I'm not in a busting hurry to replace my tyres, but the rears are the original Bridgestones and getting on a bit age-wise and the fronts are no-name Chinese efforts that were fitted in February prior to me buying the car.

Has anyone else had supply problems getting the tyres they want?

I'm lookin at getting these for my Jazz, different size, but seen no issues with availability.

Try a Costco, cheaper than every supplier I've seen and they fill with nitrogen as standard.

Maybe there isn't a supply issue in a different size, I didn't hear of any from a friend who also has a Jazz, but that I think has 14" rims, so that might explain it.

It's a bit annoying as Michelin were doing a promo to the end of the month with a fuel voucher of varying value depending on whether 2 or 4 tyres were bought (from participating fitters). This would have offset the cost a bit to that of other premium brand competitors.

The last set of Michelins I bought were made in Romania, but same friend above reports his Jazz tyres were made in Scotland. As I am from there, I would hope the ones I am buying are too as I would like to support the workers at the Dundee factory.

I'm afraid Costco is a non starter for me as I'm in the RoI and as far as I can see they only cover GB. :(

These people have some, but limited stock, lots of other brands too:

I have used them and they were very quick delivering.

I found that its the speed rating thats the problem, I think T ratings are available straight away, but not H .

Hi the problem is that you are looking for a H rated tyre which is very rare
try  a higher speed rating and you will find no problems founding tyres for your Jazz i had the same problem with my tyres original size was 185/55/16 H i fitted 185/55/16 V.

What's wrong with 'T' rated tyre ?  if your Jazz does over 118mph I will be very surprised.
Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

Getting back specifically to Michelin tyres in the 185/55 15 size....

Do they currently do a T-rated summer tyre in that size?

T, H or V doesn't appear to be rare in that size. I understand it's pointless to have H or V on a Jazz, but it comes with the size of the wheel/tyre combo which is also a bit pointless on a Jazz. May fashion swing back the other way so 155/80 13" are the new black!

I'm sure there are tyres "in the system" with distributors and dealers, but Michelin themselves have nowt.

Thank you interlock for the Oponeo link, I'll have a look later. In the past I have bought tyres from Delticom Germany (mytyres.co.uk, eiretyres.com). When I was in the UK, I used to know someone who worked for a major chain in a mobile van. Fitting/balancing/disposal was done "afterhours" and at mate's rates. ;) Unfortunately I don't have that facility on hand any more and some places round he are rather hostile towards fitting other peoples tyres or charge silly money to do so.

If I go down that road, I also have to find a company that doesn't charge an arm and leg to ship them to the RoI.

Well I asked about these Michelins in the tyre place yesterday afternoon as I was passing and they said they were in stock at Stoke. Duly the ordered, the tyres were delivered to the tyre place around half two today and I got them fitted.

This set Made in Spain, with date codes: 1513, 1613, 3913 and 1614 (Maybe they found the first three down the back of  the sofa).
