Rusted front panel
« on: May 22, 2015, 04:03:28 PM »
I just had cause to refit my front registration plate, that’s not my question lol. While there I discovered there is plate behind the bumper or at least what is left of it as there is a lot of rust! The plate does not seem structural so my question is: Is it common that it rusts and is it a serious issue I need worry about?

Cheers  :)

Didn't appear to have the bumper attached to it, though perhaps elsewhere it was. It does sit right behind the bumper.

It looks like its a bolt on part and changeable but cannot see one for sale on line. Any ideas where to get one and how much? I checked the usual places but nothing

I found one at http://www.lingshondaparts.com/honda_car_parts_selection_pfk.php?block_01=17SAA401&block_02=B__4600&block_03=20211 and a great section diagram too. I don't think I need worry about mine yet, maybe if I can source a second hand one I will change it. Easy enough job it seems once bumper is off.  :)

As a complete aside, if you cut out the four characters "_pfk" out of that link (after the word "selection"), Honda part numbers automagically appear  ;)

let us know if you find any Jazz parts in breakers - they don't seem to be the kind of car that ends up there unless they have been written off in accident - and I'm guessing bumpers would be first thing to get damaged. If a Jazz has ended up there because of old age I would think the part you are after would be rusted anyway.

Good point might be hard to find a used part not rotted away or damaged, will let you all know.

How do you know yours is rusted away without removing the bumper,i very much doubt that it is,that cross member is not exposed to water or salt probably just surface rust from the number plate fixings,

I took hand fulls of what was once metal out and what was the box section behind the bumper is now just a a single piece of metal not a box. I know what rust is when I see it!
