Had hoped Honda would had done better than what its currently offering in testing- very disappointing to say the least and Alonso getting frustrated.

Both drivers retired in the Chinese GP due to technical problems.

Alonso is doing the Indy 500 instead of Monaco, he will almost certainly be replaced by Button.
Alonso is racing for the Andretti team in the US, they use Honda engines and the car will be branded a McClaren.

Watch this for a move by Alonso for next season, his McClaren contract ends this season.

Button confirmed for Monaco.

Alonso turns 36 this year, no way will this ex-world champion want to stay at McLaren-Honda if they fail to deliver.

Also  Alonso wants to do Le Mans as well as he would like to emulate Graham Hill's trio of F1 World Champion, Indy 500 winner and Le Mans winner.

Still no points for Mclaren:

Vandoorne came home in 14th.

Eddie Jordan's predictions on Sunday were that McClaren would be using Mercedes engines next year, something that was put about a couple of weeks ago.
He also said that Alonso, whose contract runs out this year, would be driving for Renault.
Jordan is often right in his predictions.

Alonso managed 12th place in Spain after qualifying 7th so some improvement.
His free practice incident when his car failed half a lap out the pits was significant.
When hoisted up to be removed from the track the amount of fluid that poured from the car was considerable and unbelievable. This from an engine that would have been extensively run on a test bench back at the Honda factory.
Is there something basically wrong with the installation?
These sort of basic errors should not happen when you consider the amount of money being spent.
Where will Alonso be next year,  Ferrari ?

Ferrari seems like a good shout, Kimi Räikkönen's contract at Ferrari is up at the end of the season.

I don't think Alonso left Ferrari on good terms, but then I don't think he parted McLaren on good terms either.

Button and Vandoorne crashed out of the Monaco GP. Tragically, had Vandoorne finished the race he and McLaren-Honda would've collected their first points of the season.

Alonso retired from the Indy 500 due to engine problems.

Alonso retired from the Indy 500 due to engine problems.

Sadly, also using a Honda engine although different to the F1 version.
Honda have produced very successful racing engines in the past, witness the successes of McClaren and Williams in the past. Why can't they produce a F1 engine now that works ?

Sad to say that since company founder Sochiro Honda died in early nineties Honda have lost both their mojo and their direction.  Company has probably been taken over by non-engineers and designers with no vision.  Honda is still the few independent car makers who do not share models and parts with other makers,  but don't know how long for.

I watch MotoGp , WSB and BSB (and don't forget TT just started) - much more exciting than boring old F1

But Yamaha and Kawasaki are doing better than Honda at the moment  in motorbike racing

McClaren are definitely making approaches to Mercedes for a supply of engines from next season on. That's the only way they may keep Alonso, whose contract expires this year and he has told McClaren  that if there is no improvement by September he is off.
The financial aspects of dropping Honda are considerable. They contribute towards the drivers salaries and supply the engines free of charge. Engine cost alone would be about £11M and then they would be about two races behind with updates.
There is no way of knowing the efficiency of the McClaren car as it doesn't perform for long enough or fast enough to determine.

An £80m hit to drop Honda most seem to speculate.  It's also pretty tough to only supply / test / feedback two cars, things may have been better if they had also convinced a junior team to switch to Honda when McClaren did.

Alonso finished in 6th and Vandoorne in 10th in the Hungarian GP.

With the mid-season break upon us McLaren-Honda are in 9th place on 11 points, six ahead of bottom-placed Sauber-Ferrari but 15 points behind Renault. Alonso and Vandoorne are in 15th and 18th places respectively in the drivers' championship.

Reports are suggesting that neither Mercedes or Ferrari will supply engines to McLaren next year so if they decide to dump Honda that leaves them with Renault.
If Honda decide that enough is enough that could leave McLaren in deep poo.

Alonso reached third position before being caught up in that first corner debacle and ending his race before it had really begun. Vandoorne finished in 7th.

McLaren and Honda are to end their partnership at the end of the season, with McLaren going to Renault but Toro Rosso will use Honda engines next year:

Disappointing season for Mclaren-Honda, finished in 9th in the constructors' rankings on 30 points (one up from the bottom). Last year they finished in 6th on 76 points:

http://www.skysports.com/f1/standings

Next year McLaren are using Renault powerplants and Honda will supply Toro Rosso after they split with Renault. Rumours suggest that TR's sister team Red Bull will use Honda in 2019.
