Quote:- "We tested both the CVT and manual transmission options and would strongly recommend the latter. The CVTís paddles work well enough, but it is overly noisy and this engine does need a bit of encouragement to get a move on. Stir the manual gearboxís short throw mechanism and acceptable performance can be encouraged from the 101BHP naturally aspirated unit, though doing this means there is notable engine noise entering the cabin."
This is another case of the tester having no idea how the CVT actually goes about its business. Floor the throttle in a CVT and the revs and engine noise rise instantly and the car accelerates. This exactly what happens if you drive a manual gearbox in the same way. You change down, the revs and engine noise rise and the car accelerates .
