Hi

So 75% at 10,000 miles? Oopps I'm on 17,000 odd and haven't touched mine.
Well if that's right maybe it should be in for a warranty repair.

I actually think 15% is something to put on the inspection sheet, it's 15% + or - 12% and to quote percentages on brake pad wear is vague unless of course they removed one, measure it accurately, do the calculation and reassemble it.

Well the obvious answer is to look yourself but unless you drive like Lewis Hamilton with your left foot on the brake you won't have anything to worry about :)

Agree with the above - the % they quote is close to random.

Anyway, if the car is only doing 2000 miles per year the brake pads will sieze in their calipers before they wear out.

Low mileages mean more pad wear due to rust on the disks.

Hi emmerdale,

I was quoted 30% wear at the first service, 20% at the second. Sailed through the mot at the third service, no mention of brake pad wear during mot.

Enjoy the car it's a good un, keep an eye on the front tyres though if they are dunlops.

I've been quoted 70-80% wear on the front with estimated life expectancy of 2-3k (for discs as well) and 40% on the rear (2007 Jazz, 61k). The rears were only changed six months ago (I've only done 3,500 miles since then) by an independent garage.

As said above....% is close to random.

I do quite a lot of motorway miles, and my front pads have been on for 45,000 miles so far, at my last service Honda told me that the front pads were 80% worn, and should be replaced, and the front tyres were down to 2mm.

When I had the tyres changed I asked the tyre fitters to give me a price for the pads, and they said they are only 60% worn, "Theres still plenty of meat on them".

Hi thanks for all replies to my query, seems like there a lot of cowboys riding around and maybe dealers mechanics who just put a figure in to make it appear that the are very good at wasting time,as was said in an earlier reply very unlikely that this wear was actually measured

Just thought I resurrect this rather than start a new one.

At the last service in April 2014 I was told my front brake pads were 20% worn - the car had done 13,000 miles since new at this stage.

Just had it serviced by an independent. As an advisory, he said the front pads were 70% worn and might be worth replacing soon to avoid damage to the discs. I find it difficult to believe that they have gone from 20% worn to 70% worn in a year and just 3,000 miles.

Noticed that the wheels haven't been removed (dusty so any fingerprints would have been picked up) so there does seem to be a large amount of guesswork here.

My last Jazz (EX bought new) had 39,000 on the clock when I part-exed it, and never had any of the pads replaced. It was serviced by the garage I bought it from - Marshalls!  ;D

I would be disappointed to get less than 50k mils from the front pads..based on my past driving history. The only time I replaced pads was when the prior owner/driver had worn them down.. I rarely brake hard and long..Our Yaris has doen 40k miles on its new disks and pads.. 70% unworn...

Yes - pretty much my driving style. Interestingly, doing a bit of googling, low mileage is not necessarily bad for pads. Hard braking on motorways, especially slowing down from high speeds, can wear pads more than stop start.

My car is about to hit 50k miles and I need to change my front brake disc and pads for the SECOND time  :-[ :-[ :-[

I have done 3 track days in my Jazz though so that should explain the reason for the change  :D
