Air con / wheel refurb / clutch
« on: May 12, 2017, 04:36:59 PM »
Hi all,

Got an '08 Mk2 recently. 1.4 EX, very happy with it.

Wondering if anyone has any insight on my issues:

- wheels needing a refurb (one kind soul has given a rough quote already) - mine are pretty shot;
- air con seems pretty feeble. I guess it needs regassing?
- clutch. Comes in a bit suddenly and with a mini-thump (bit too strong a word, it's actually fairly gentle). Is it on its way out or something?

Am getting the car serviced soon, but just trying to work out what to bother or not bother about.

Cheers in advance

The local car dealer had a mobile wheel restorer working on alloy wheels on the forecourt.I asked the cost for a civic and was quoted £50 a wheel. That's in south west london area about a year ago.

I had my Volvo alloys refurbed at £55 per wheel. Biggest improvement was I didn't need to blow up tyres every couple of weeks.

I don't see the point in having aircon that doesn't work, it is no longer a luxury item as nearly all cars have it these days.
Have it properly serviced not just regassed, that will determine whether there are any serious leaks. If it hasn't been serviced in a while it will be low on gas but also may have a leak which is indicative of a system not being regularly serviced.

Cheers Vic, made it part of a sorting-out job by local dealer, which they appear to have done well as the better half now reports it's blowing icy
