Rear light lens/cover
« on: February 18, 2017, 01:34:18 PM »
Thanks to an anonymous prat,  I found that the rear nearside lamp cluster cover has been cracked and has a small hole in it,  too.  Sellotape to the temporary rescue,  but does anyone know how much it will cost to supply and fit a new one?   The car is a 2002, 52 plates.

Why buy a new one?

Scrapyard / ebay.

Only thing that adds to the labour time is the back bumper is supposed to come off as there is a clip/tongue at the bottom of the lamp unit which holds the bumper.

Doesn't take too longer to get a bumper off mind, so I wouldn't expect it to be more than 1 hour.

Thanks - found, as you say, plenty of used ones about. I can't manage too much DIY stuff these days (81 yrs old mimser!) so will have to get it fitted by someone.

Your still better buying from breakers yard then ask local mechanic/garge to fit, good luck.

I found a local Indie garage who supplied a lens cover  (new) and fitted it for £108, all in!
Result.

...and they offered to locate the exact location of the perennial water ingress into the boot problem, after declining to drill a hole in the boot to drain the water. (Too nice a car to do that, he said). It might be the hatch seal, the strut fixing, or the usual suspect of the roof seal. Investigation needed.
That'll have to wait until finances have recovered from (this year, so far ) house insurance, car insurance, new all-singing, all-dancing, high end glasses  for SWMBO,  two rear wheel bearings and then this latest example of negative cash flow!
(Plus new denture plate pre-Xmas for her too).
